Information Required when Submitting Seestar Tickets

It’s likely we’ll need to be able to connect to your Seestar to diagnose and solve problems you’re having. In order to do that, we need your serial number, SSID, and Wi-Fi password.

Your serial number is printed on the bottom of your Seestar and can also be found in the app under Device Info in the Device Management section of Settings. You should keep a record of your serial number, since you won’t be able to physically see your device when it’s at the observatory, and you may have a problem that keeps you from seeing it in the app.

The SSID or Wi-Fi hotspot name is set by the factory to the model name, followed by an underscore, followed by the serial number. This is the name of the hotspot that the Seestar creates and you connect to when connecting to your device locally. You can change this name, and you may have done that to make your device easier to find among the many Seestars at the observatory. It is important to record this if you change the name so you can report it to us when you need support.

The default password for the Seestars is the very well-known “12345678”. It is important that you change the password on your Seestar both for security and to prevent others from connecting accidentally. You can change your password in the app under “Device Management” in Settings. Record your password and report it to us when you need support.

Reporting your Serial Number, SSID, and Wi-Fi Password

When you submit a support ticket for your Seestar, we may need to connect to it. We’ll need you to tell us your serial number, SSID, and Wi-Fi password.

After you create and submit your ticket on our site, open the ticket and scroll to the bottom where you’ll find the Secure Credential Vault. For the label, tell us which piece of information this is, such as “Serial Number”. For the type field, you can use “password” for the password and “note” for the serial number and Wi-Fi SSID. Put the serial number, password, or SSID in the “Secret Value” field. Create one of these for each of the 3 pieces of requested information.

This information will be encrypted on our server so it will be safe. We’ll be able to view it but nobody else will.
